i don't have any tips for knowing kanjis you don't know... learn them :P
as for spacing it's better to get rid of the habit to use spaces as soon as possible, or it will get really hard later on. It actually takes more time for me to read a japane...

I suppose you're right. The only example of this from my limited vocabulary is kyou今日 it means "today" but the individual kanji are now-ima今 and day-hi日 "now day" so If you have a string of words like those then it'd probably be hard to peel words...
I watch anime, I read manga, I plan to go to Japan and I love the language. Knowing it is handy in the art business.
I don't know where I stand in knowledge of the language, but I occasionally email my Japanese friends in Japanese/English.
