How would you 'I hope that something is something' in japanese, for example, i hope that mister smith is nice, or i hope that the train comes today?
thanks

It may not be easy to translate the verb "hope" into good Japanese.
But I'd think "...(da)to ii (desune)" could be used in most cases.

For example:
I hope that Mr. Smith is nice.
スミスさんが(/は)いい人だといいです(ね)

I hope that the train comes today.
(その)電車が今日来るといい(な/ね)

Hope it helps.
