How do you say "whats the difference between X and Y". I was thinking 「X と Y が違うは何?」.

Reply to This

I think that would be 「XとYの違いは何?」
it somehow sounds like you're quoting something... just 「XとYが違う」means "X and Y is wrong/different"(depends on context ofcourse) so in speech it would sounds something like "what is "X and Y different"?"(「X とY が違う」は何?), do you see where i am going?(yes you should use the quotation particle "と" but alot of people use は)

マスさん、久しぶりですね。いつも返事をありがとう。段々分かりました。ただ一つ:「Quotation particle」って何?聞いたことない。I've just always referred to the particle と as a "connector" particle. 違うの?

Reply to This

はい、久しぶりですね!
well, as you already wrote, 「って」 is also a Quotation particle, but that can also be used as a soft 「は」, like...「焼肉っておいしい?」。Using 「と」would be more formal. 「と」is just not a way of saying "and" and quote, it can be used to say "if" too. たとえば、「ここから落ちると死ぬよ!」"if you/me fall from here I'll/you'll die"(the pronoun depends on context, again :) )

So are you saying the sentence "is yakiniku delicious" can be written in 3 ways:
1) 焼肉美味しい? 2) 焼肉って美味しい?3) 焼肉美味しい?そして、その三つ分は同じ意味なんの?

Reply to This

You can't say 「焼肉と美味しい」but the rest are ok yes :)
Should have added that using 「と」as a quotation particle is more formal than 「って」。

やっぱりね、「焼肉と美味しい?」ってちょっとおかしいと思った。ありがとう。

Final Fantasy を訳してください。最初の言葉は多分「最後」だと思います。でも、Fantasy って何だけ? 辞書で見つけられない。

ファイナルファンタジー?(笑)
that's the title of the game atleast

漢字がないですか。カタカナでもう知っていますから。私は最初から 「最後の夢」だと思ったけど、「夢」の意味は「dream」でしょう。だから、多分違うと思いました。あ~!難しすぎ!「ファイナルファンタジー」は十分です。ありがとうね。
