Does anyone have a favorite Japanese word(s)?
みなさんの日本語の好きな言葉は何ですか?
(Mina-san no nihongo no suki na kotoba wa nan desu ka?)

for me it is ピカピカ (pika pika) which means "shiny"
and one I just learned recently 食いしん坊 (kuishinbou) which means "gluttonous or fatty"
XD
Anyone else?

Mine is "Watashi ha shiramasen", which means "I don't know". I use it as a sarcastic comment, or when some one - whats the word...- Bewilders me.

Hi Dan...
Maybe i'm wrong but, take care: i think "shiramasen" is not correct > "shirimasen/ しりません / 知りません (polite)" or "shirunai/ しるない / 知るない(neutral)" might be the good one but my level is not high enough to be sure.

My favorite word is maybe: "Sakana / さかな / 魚" which means "Fish"...

Have a good day !

the plain form would be "shiranai"/「しらない」/「知らない」
and it means "don't know"

There are a number of Japanese words that sound rather beautiful when spoken. A lot of my favourites come from my martial arts experience as some kata names just roll off the tongue so well (e.g. zantotsuto, urokogaeshi, zenteki gyaku to) and some have a profound meaning, particularly Kaishaku.

There are a few more interesting combinations (slang) I learned recently.
1.) ググる- To google something, to use google.
2.) タクる- To take a taxi.

Mines is KY or Kuuki yomenai (空気読めない)
I learned this through a friend's friend, and it means that you can't read the atmosphere.
tatoeba, if someone says something offensive and they don't realize it you can say that, or
in similar situations where one person is just unaware of the tensions.

Awesome. That happens a lot with me lol.

ああ、私も「空気読めない」を知っています。
Yeah, I learned KY not too long ago, it's an interesting phrase. I haven't been able to slip it into any situations though.

Haha, I like Banzai「万歳」 as well =]
The first kanji means 10,000.
And the second one means years.
