Japanese food!!!! I love it sooooooooo much!!!!!!!! If you love Japanese food then post something here about it!!!! This is 鍋 (なべ). Perfect when the weather is cold. Will warm you up and looks yummy! I've never had it but it appears to have everything I like in it!! The first time I saw this dish was in anime Inuyasha.
Soba refers to thin Japanese noodles made from buckwheat flour. It is served either chilled with a dipping sauce, or in hot broth as a noodle soup. The raw noodles are made by making a dough out of buckwheat flour and binder, and spreading it out flat before slicing noodle strands off using a special knife.
The quality of noodles is highly dependent on the skill of the maker, especially for soba noodles with high buckwheat content. The raw noodles are boiled before being served hot or cold. Traditionally, soba is the noodle of choice for Tokyoites. But today, soba is popular nationwide, including Kyoto.
Smoked herring was a valuable source of protein for Kyoto residents in the days when fresh seafood was hard to come by. The best way to taste soba is Zaru-soba (basic chilled soba noodles served on a flat basket or plate topped with shredded nori seaweed).
At night on December 31, the Japanese have a custom of eating soba noodles, and nishin-soba is the popular choice for the people of Kyoto.
This is my favorite form of noodles. I specially like them cold on a warm summer day in Kyoto. Man i ate enough of this that I wasnt hungry for 2 days xD.
It just goes to show how individual tastes can vary. Altho' I am interested in discovering the ins-and-outs of international quisine, from what I have learned so far there is far too much sea-food in Japanese cooking. Not surprsing really, given the geography but not appetising to me.
Tuna, salmon, various forms of battered fish (especially cod ... yum!) I can eat with gusto but stuff you have to prise out of shells ... I'll pass thanks :D.
Well then Sukerkin, I'll just have to post something you might like, :) Do you like beef? Here's a pic I found online of sukiyaki. Sukiyaki has thinly sliced beef, and vegetables. In this one cabbage, enoki mushrooms, some other kinda mushrooms, carrots(shaped like clovers?), tofu, and some kinda clear noodle i dunno what the name,
I've read that Hyde and Megumi (Hyde's wife) make and eat sukiyaki. Hyde loves to eat. And from what I can gather he loves beef.
I've never had sukiyaki (probably never will because I don't eat cowmeat) but it looks delicious. What you think Sukerkin?
That looks very good indeed, Ophelia . My mouths watering with anticipation. Good job tonight is take-away night and my Chicken Rogan Josh (with Special friend rice) should be arriving shortly :).
And of course Japan's cooking has many different kinds of curry. Well, I think maybe Asia's food in general there are many types of curry. I dunno what kind this is. But in the boat is curry gravy, and you pour it over the rice. This curry was eaten by a friend of mine at 鎌倉(Kamakura).
Hyde loves curry. I've read that even though curry is well known over the world to be an Indian dish, that Hyde didn't know this for long time. That he didn't know that Indians (people of India) even made curry at all. I guess maybe he thought it was solely Japanese cuisine, :)
I guess since Japan is island nation you're gonna find alot of seafood based dishes. However, Japanese also seem to eat alot of pork, beef, and other foods too. I hope posted something you might like, :)
Sorry, Ophelia, I missed this due to the 'threaded' nature of the fora :o.
Sake is good if you get the proper stuff and serve it at the right temperature - otherwise it tastes like you'd expect pureed old socks to :D.
French wine went through a terrible period where it's reputation far exceeded it's quality. I've been drinking Australian for quite a while but now it's their turn for a quality drop (due to bad seasons) and the French are getting it right once more.
